Zoom Pictures

Hi all,
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been lurking for a while and am finally taking the plunge and posting a couple of my projects. I recently got into woodworking when the second hand lathe I bought took over my hobby! I’ve completed a dozen projects or so, as it’s hard to find time to spend in the shop recently, and finally feel like I’d like to receive some feedback and critique from you folks on a couple of my recent pieces.

This is Maple for the body, and mystery wood for the rim. Each ring has 12 segments. the bowl is about 8” diameter if I remember correctly, and has found a happy home at my Dad’s place. Finish is Antique oil and, buffed and ren wax.

All comments and critiques are welcome and appreciated.
thanks for looking!

Dan c.

Another nice bowl : ) The segments really catch the light on this one .
More pix would be nice .

Great job on your first segmented bowl. Nice tight joints and I like the shape that you did.

Great bowl with a nice flow to the shape. More pics are all ways a nice touch. Plus a look at the bottom.

Keep it up.

Welcome to the world of segmentation. A world I have just joined myself.

Your first segmented bowl looks great. The joints all seem good and tight. The contrast in wood color is very good…not over done like some segmented work. The shape of the bowl is very pleasing…...and in my opinion, form is the most important thing in any turning. The glue lines are good from what I can see in the picture. Often the light colored wood will show glue lines more than the dark.

I would say you are off to a very good start. Well done, and keep them chips flying.

Thanks again for all your comments everyone. I do wish I had more pictures of this bowl, but this is the only one I snapped on my way out the door when I was taking it over to my dad’s for his birthday. I’m not sure if you’re able to add pictures to these posts later, but if I can get some more over pics taken at his place, I throw them up here.
Brian – I couldn’t agree me more, I love the segmenting, but keep reminding myself that bad form won’t be pleasing to anyone, regardless of how many pieces it has or how well they’re glued together.
Thanks again everyone.
