I made the base out of a piece of local cherry. the risers are peruvian walnut…and the middle is ambrosia maple with purple heart. finished with bush oil. this was my second time doin mortis and tenon. I think I am ready to tackle a piece of furniture now :)

Nice job. Is there some fancy kind of joint holding it all together in the middle, or is it just glued up? I was wondering if it is glued up if doing so with end grain to end grain woudl hold up over the long haul in such a thin piece of wood. I think a good idea for stability would be a dowel running all the way through it.

thanx….it actually has a spline on the underside of it. and also the purple heart is turned so there is no end grain to end grain. its all 3/4

Ok. I hadn’t thought of a spline underneath. That works. I also didn’t notice the two strips turned until you mentioned it. Thanks.
