Just finished our new bar. The cabs are hand planed alder – all distressing, worm holes, splits and square pegging are added after assy. The ceiling is #2 common pine ( hand planed ) with pine boxcar siding. The hinges are solid brass, lift off, which I put in a darkening solution and buffed out. The finish is lacquer sealer followed by Mohawk heavy bodied glaze, then lacquer, then wax.

My wife has patiently worked her way to the top of my home project list, and is holding on to that position fiercely. :)

Again great work! Once the wife gets on the list there is no end to the projects at home, but who better to share your talent with.

This is a wonderful project. The design and finish on the bar are simply gorgeous. I am sure that your wife appreciates it. This would be a compliment to anyone’s home.

Since you completed this in time for Valentine’s Day maybe she will treat you to a new tool in return.

Good luck on completing all of your “assigned projects”. If your list is anything like mine, the to do category seems to grow faster than the completed list.

Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! I love the way you did the panels on the bar front. My wife is still waiting for her bar. I told her she can’t afford us

Marshall, beautiful! I was completely amazed at all you have done in that space. I rally like your drawer fronts and use of bead board in the vaulted ceiling. I am working on a bar or “pub room” in my house too. FANTASTIC! Thanks

The alder is sealed with lacquer sanding sealer – - sanded – - glazed with this stuff – http://www.mohawk-finishing.com/mhk_cds/product_pds/m506-all.pdf The color is Van Dyke Brown – - ( the areas around the joints were darkened with a dry brush and a small amount of the glaze) – - – then sealed and top coated with lacquer. The finish is allowed to cure for about a week then rubbed down with steel wool and waxed.
