This speaker is made to handle the center channel in my home theater system.
It is three Fostex speaker elements that sits in a duel forted speaker box. All three handles the same frequency
The core is made out of 22mm MDF and then is is covered with Birch veneer on top and button and birch strips on the sides.
It is finished with oil based “boat” lacquer that is polished to get a almost mirror finnish.

Cool project. I like speaker projects. Did you also do the stand. It also looks interesting.

I’m a stereo guy too. Curious do you let your sound processor crossover specify the frequency or do you have blockers at the speaker level. Nice build.

Thanks!
It is full range speakers that goes rather deep in frequency. The only thing I have told my sound processor is that it is small speakers so it cuts the really low frequency and send them to the subwother.
But I also think that the Dolby surround (and the others) standard limits the low frequency for the center speaker.
Any how I have not heard that they gone into clipping even at high volume.
I Have used the design for the speaker from Fostex home page.

Nice job! Yeah, the processors generally restrict frequencies if specified “small”. I’ve got fancy sound processing but I tend to enjoy music with just my mains and subs going. For movies, I’ll break out the center and phantom rear because my ears are toast from loud heavy metal music. Really nice work you’re putting out.

I have been working on some bass reflex enclosures for jordan drivers for about 9 months. Ran into a few problems veneering, but you are making me jealous. Very beautiful. Would love to see the rest of your setup. Keep up the good work.

Have your say...
