A new obsession has taken hold…. a repair turned in to an inspiration. This Black Palm was predestined to become a couple of pens ..along with a terrible waste of wood being simply turned away…. then I saw this Fuji reel seat sitting empty and alone. The lower portion showed grain alot more than I imagined it would, next time I will spend considerably more time sanding (Dave:) ) , but then again.. the baitfish will have their mouths too full of hook to laugh at my finish!

Fishing is my next favorite hobby. Did these poles have the original cork or foam handles on them? I’d love to see a tutorial on how to do this. I have my ol trusty ugly stick that could use some new grips.

Nice job. How does the rod cast?

Hawkdriver.. I’d be happy to share how to make these…I’ll get busy on a tutorial.
Matt… thanks…. it casts like a stinkin rocket. I have modified the guides, placement, size and composition. The reel is a Penn 450ss , it is loaded with 50# braided line (overkill… I know) and on a hard cast you will see the spool under the line! I call the style “rocket rods” for obvious reasons :)
