20" Jointer Plane

Hello. This is my latest hand plane. Its a 20” jointer made with maple and walnut wedge and 2” blade. I designed the body with an exagerated “hook” on the front so if I do any face planing I have a good place to push with my hand. The plane body is finished with a few coats of danish oil and a coat of paste wax. The sole only has some paste wax on it.

Very pretty. Looks like you could take it out to Bonnieville and set a new land speed record. How do you like it’s performance. Also, which cutter did you choose?

haha, it does look fast. The plane works very well, I can get very thin shavings if I want though with a jointer I usually take thicker shavings. I have a 2” wide Hock blade from LeeValley.

I also want to eventually make a plow plane, rabbet plane, and some other specialty planes. So if anyone has any planes they made post the links. I would like to find someone who sells A2 steel so I can make my own blades aswell.

Carters, you clearly excel at building wooden planes. Would you consider blogging your next build? I know there’d be a ton of interest here. Al.

Look.
Up in the sky.

It’s a bird.
It’s a plane.

No … it’s SUPERMAN !!!

Not sure what kind of sub-frame you’ve built for that, or whether it’ll come out of alignment with too much torque, but I’d LOVE to see you throw a small-block Chevy motor—probably the venerable 350cid—in that baby, and see what she’ll do on track day.

It’s so cool !
