Quartersaw white oak salvaged flooring tv stand for the new tv I bought back in Feburary. As you can see in the second picture the stuff was pretty nasty in the beginning, after all it had just been removed from a 150 year old house slated for demo by the city. I spent the better part of an afternoon searching through a pile of oak flooring to stumble on a few pieces here and there of this awesome grained wood at the salvage yard. I am guessing this was in the parlor or front room on the house. At $.15 a linear foot for well seasoned quartersaw stock, I bought every piece in the stack, 350 linear feet later I loaded the truck and this is the first project from it. I call it West Side Mission for the slight influences of mission style with the qs oak and walnut trim and the fact it was from a house on the West Side of Dayton and that it was repurposed for a house in the West Side of Dayton into the stand you see. The only lumber I bought specifically for this piece from my lumber guy was the bottom valance and the pieces for the top. I try to use knots and other inperfections to my advantage—bottom valance and top trim. this thing weights a ton so I back cut the valance on the bottom and installed 4 casters. I hand planed until the stand would just barely move with weight on it. Minwax Golden Oak to even out the color a bit, one coat hand rubbed poly, three coats spray on high gloss poly and coated with 3 coats of briwax hand buffed. Need less to say my wife loves it and has already encouraged me too spend more time outside making things like this…...don’t know if it a ploy to just get rid of me or maybe she does like it… project shall begin…..and we shall see, thanks for the look and any comments good or bad…..-t

Great score on the lumber, and a fantastic job of using it. Really a beautiful piece with great details!

I don’t know how anyone could really say anything bad … looks great. The walnut accents are nice touch.
