These are a pair of chairs I made for my brother and his wife. The chairs are made from Western Red Cedar and plugged with scraps of Walnut. I just bought a new HVLP spray gun and these are the first project I have treated with them and loved how the gun worked. Hope you enjoy!

My wife has been looking closely at this type of chair for several weeks: I think she is sending me telepathic messages to build some. I really like the look and the finish.

Nice job on these. I have to make 2 of them after this next project. What HVLP did you get? I just bought the Earlex 5500 and love that thing! Makes it look like I know what I’m doing,,,LOL

What did you spray them with?... I think i’ll be using the same wood.

I like the design. Nice wide arms for drinks. ;)

Looks great. I just bought the 5500 yesterday and plan to spray some Adk. chairs this weekend. What did you use to spray them? Any tips or tricks that might help. I am planning to use a Marine Spar varnish, what did you use? Did you spray inside, and if you did how big of a mess was it? Did you need a respirator?

The chair you see next to my name I built last summer. I sprayed them with a HVLP gun from Home Depot connected to my compressor. There was so much mist and over spray it seemed down right dangerous even wearing a respirator. there was also a fine mist on everything within 30 feet of the spray area. Hoping the 5500 is more controlled.

I used a Porter Cable PSH1 HVLP gun and loved how it sprayed. I sprayed in the garage with the bay door open and in hind sight should have used a respirator. The over spray pretty much ended up on the floor and my concern for that was negligible. I used MINWAX Helmsman with a reducer, and after a few coats and a sanding with 400+ grit it left a great finish. And the chair in your avatar is fantastic I love the wood color. I would have liked to make a leg rest with my chair but the design had incorporated it in the actual seat.

Have your say...
