The legs on this are 4 1/2” sq. They were pin routed from all four sides to get them hollowed out, the corner brackets were done the same way. It had two leaves to make it 12’ in length total.

The finish was kind of a white wash effect.

This design came from a picture of a small sofa style table that the client brought in.

Again sorry these are old photo’s that were scanned,,,,before the time of digital and computers.

Just once…just once, I’d like you to post a project that doesn’t have me doubting myself as not just a woodworker (pretty easy since I’m a newbie), but as a creative individual in general ;)

Very nice work!

Ok, I’m going to quit trying to impress anyone here, especially Les. That is absolutely awesome work. I can safely say I would never attempt anything like that.

Keep up the good work.

Great post Les. Is this solid mahogany or veneer? The detail and carvings really make this a unique project.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I made 2 of those last week. Really though, I’m with Rob, after seeing Les’s last few posts (and Gary’s Box and DeCou’s carvings, and Mot’s turnings) I feel like a hacker and this site is turning into Pebble Beach.

Les, you tend to leave us all babbleing incoherently. Tell us it’s a matter of breaking it down to small components and doing one at a time. Great design and execution.

Okay, so after some poking around I see that pin routing uses an overhead router. What are the advantages of using this setup over a regular table router and when and where would you use such a beast ?

Damian,

The main advantage I like about using a pin router is that I can see exactly what I’m cutting at all times. Plus template is on the other side of the work piece and doesn’t fill up with all the waste material. You can do the same thing with a plunge router but sometimes its just easier with a pin router. When I’m doing curved work like drawer fronts that has a profile routed down into it I do those on the pin router. I could spend a week showing you things that a pin router could be uesd for.

Maybe the next time I do a project that I use it on I can blog it.
