Shop Made Box Joint Jig

They wanted $80 for this one of these at Rockler… whatever!

This is for all you guys like me who’s router table is a piece of mdf with a whole in it. :-)

I made this one out of some scrap MDF.

I put some aluminum tape on the bottom of it to make it slide well.

The picture shows two fences to guide the sled but it will work with one.

Also because the base of the jig is as high as the fence I can joint large panels like I did on my Tool Cabinet project. I don’t think that little Rockler jig can do that.

I used a spiral bit to help it hog out the waste in one pass. The last picture is of drawers that are a product of the jig.

Takes some tinkering and test cuts to get the fit just right but I think that’s the case with any jig.

P.S. I know the boards in the pic are not oriented correctly, I just threw them on there for the picture without thinking.

Hope this helps others that have been thinking of tackling box joints and want to make a jig.

Regards,

Mauricio

The boards in the pic are not oriented correctly.
