This was a practice project that turned into beautiful dovetails. The box is made of clear pine, cut by hand, and planed smooth. The lid pivots on a piano hinge. I finished the piece with boiled linseed oil. Thanks for looking.

That is a nice looking Dovetail Box. Did you make it with a speciall purpose in mind?
What is that other box in the background?
Also, do you have some photo’s of your workshop?

You are on a slippery slope, once you start to hand cut dovetails, you need more tools, a cabinet to keep them in, nice wood to work with … the list goes on and on. Excellent “practice piece”, glad you built something so useful.

Nice dovetails. Interesting lid. Did you design the lid that way for a reason? Seems like you lose entry space or a chance to put in a drop in tray with that design. I also would have put some kind of handles on the ends for carrying it around. That size it’s got to be heavy. Just my opinion, on a great looking box. Don
