This gift box was thought of as just that, a gift. Good wine is sometimes given as a gift, and I thought, why not present it in a classy manner?! The box was a modification from a plan I saw a while back in some woodworking magazine, and the clasp was adapted from some FWW edition recently. The joinery is miller dowels, and tongue and groove. The hinges are brusso. The wood is a nice piece of fiddleback maple with some cool bubinga I picked up from my local wood source (the boardhoarder, kirkland, Wa, Steve Bartocci). The bottom of the box is lined with a piece of black leather I cut out of an old coat I had, and the notebook’s intent is for the giver to record the vintage, recipient, date given and occasion of the gift. How cool would it be to see all the places, vintages and occasions this box will have participated in over the years.
If you receive this box with wine as a gift, you are hereby obligated to pay it forward as a gift to someone else {with wine, of course!) This project took a lot longer than I originally thought it would, but I enjoyed every second of it! Cheers!

Very classy! Love the shaped holders for the notebook and the shape of the glass in the holder for the bottle neck. Well thought out design.

Daniel, that is so nice and very nicely done. It’s a beautiful box and a wonderful gift.

What a great idea, and beautifully executed. You could make big bucks selling these things, I’m sure!
