My last “Paduan”, Todd, was my hair stylist. After years of seeing my work, he decided to start coming down to my studio to learn woodworking and design/craft. (Sadly, after 2.5 years of tutorage, he has moved to New Orleans with his partner for a new life, and I miss him.)
This project came about from a remodel job of their last salon. The back room was an old pedicure area, which we gutted out, BUT there was all this great raw material.. so I suggested that Todd make a salon bench out of the best looking boards. He cleaned, flattened, and trued the stock materials himself and we came up with this simple design. There are still hammer marks on the wood, but it only added interest once a stain was applied. Every bit of this was from recycled pine lumber and plywood from the old spa.

Very cool, I love the recycling aspect. Did you sew the top or have it made?
