Over the course of the past year I have become interested in reusing either materials or old furniture in new ways. Most of my interest has been in reusing old shipping pallets.

This is a set of side chairs that I made completely from old shipping pallets. They are a mix of different wood types of different ages and wear. I love the grain, age marks and nails wholes so I used very little filling and finished them with a clear satin sealer. This was also my first attempt at building chairs and I am very pleased with the end result.

I enjoy using recycled wood. I cringe at the site of a bulldozer plowing into an old building with no thought to recycling components.

I commend your work. A while ago I built a dresser/shelf kind of piece with pallets. I should find the photo and attach it so you can see it. I also build almost exclusively with reused lumber. I have a few projects posted if you want to check them out. I also once saw a weblink to a pallet contest where each woodworker was given 1 pallet and a few days to build. What they were coming up with was incredible….many were shaping them into highly finished items. Great job with these. I like the way you tapered the legs…what tools do you use to do that?

Great chairs! This is inspirational!
When you say pallet ,its common to automatically think pine, its just not the case! I have/had oaks, maple, walnut, red gum, and lots of unidentified species, from shipping crates and pallets. A wonderful source of material in such a disposable world.

The chairs are pretty sturdy. They can hold me (standing and sitting) and I am 240lbs.
