I made this stool for my son. He thinks its really a table but thats ok as long as he likes it. I made it out of pine construction lumber I got out of the scrap bin at Menards for $0.64 a piece. It seems alot of my projects are being made out of that lately. A whole pile of quality boards and I’m using scrap wood for everything lately. Thats ok though they are skill building projects. To continue with this one I used a red sedona stain followed by two coats of red oak stain and one coat of gloss poly. I then used my new found technique of buffing with 00 steel wool and rubbing out with extra virgin olive oil. It sounds crazy but it seems to work in place of paste wax or auto rubbing compound.

Nice stool. He’ll use it forever. I made them for my grandchildren and they use them every day in their rooms yet!
Thanks for the tip on the olive oil. I’ll try that….....Jim

That stool is really special and it appears that he likes it as well. Good going, dad.

By now he is probably using it as a stool or maybe a ladder to get into things he is not supposed to get into. I know that’s how my Grandkids use them. :)
Have your say...
