Here are a few cutting boards I put together over the holiday weekend. I put a little twist on the zig-zag boards I have seen recently. Hats off to McLeanVA for his informative blog. They are made with Walnut and Hard Maple.

The third pic gives a hint as to the ‘Diet’ aspect of these boards. Thanks to the mini box-makers over the last few weeks for the inspiration there. I told my friends that I made a plate sized sculpture of a quarter, but they weren’t buying it. These are a little proof of concept I threw together. I really like the lightning bolt effect and will be putting this into some full sized projects in the coming weeks.

Thanks to all in the LJ community. I have really found this site to be inspiration.

That is some rediculously black walnut. Looks more like Ebony than walnut. Is there a finish on them?

These were finished with just mineral oil. They were still a bit wet when I took the pics. I expect they will lighten up a bit as they dry.

wow, once I saw the scale of these things… well, I was impressed with the zig-zag already but then to finally twig to the “diet” aspect… tres cool!

Certainly shaved a few calories off the boards!

Now those are cool.
Love the design, or ‘proof of concept’. Go for it.

I really like the contrast and that progressive motif, like an Escher piece :)

I was curious if you’d be willing to make this in a larger/custom size and what would the price be?

I’m a designer working for a client that would love to have this.

If so, please send me an email at
