I made this box for my girlfriend to test out a miter spline jig I made.

This is a modified version of Doug Stowe’s Lift Lid Box. The sides are an inch and a half wider than the plans. Its made with some red oak and some scrap I had for the top. I’m not really sure what it is. The finish is the tried and true shellac with a little wax.

I’m on my way to making some real boxes. I need to do a little more work on my miter sled. Something is off.

Dan, the box looks really great. If the sled created a problem, it’s sure not evident!
thanks for posting the project.

Thank you. 3 miters line up perfectly and the last one is just a bit shallow. I might have had the piece off a bit in the sled. I need to add some type of clamp to hold things in place. I might just make a new one that has hold down tracks and all. The miter spline sled works well though.
