Urn Box for My Grandparents

My Grandfather asked me, after my Granmother’s passing, to build a box in which he and she can be buried side-by-side. Since they’re very simple folks who grew up in the Upper CT River Valley in Vermont/NH, I wanted to convey that in the design and materials of the box. The main body and hinges of the box are shagbark hickory. The handles, splines and lid pull are osage orange.

Very, very nice work. Love the simplicity. I’m sure your grandmother would approve.

Great looking box!! I built one similar out of pine to bury my little dog in when he goes. I think a lot of him, but not quite enough to justify hickory. If I ever do another I will use your idea of wood hinges.

-- I cut it off 3 times and it's still too short!

Very well done. I like the wood hinges in particular.

Very nice. I am not rying to put a damper on things here at all but I did one similar for my mom. There are maximum dimensions that must be adheared to, so that the vault will close. Hopefully yours will fit!!

Thanks, everybody. @Spunwood, this is just a box in which to put the urn. The urn itself is a double, or “companion” urn with two separate compartments.
@MedicKen, if the box doesn’t fit in the vault we’ll either get a bigger vault or just not bury the box and use it to store mementos of my grandparents :)
