Headboard made of maple. Four raised panels assembled side by side and then topped with a 4” wide top. Hung on wall with French cleat. Took me F-O-R-E-V-E-R to match the stain with rest of furniture. Learned that if you really want stain to take don;t sand to too fine a grit. Had to sand down some to get stain to take.

Rob, this headboard turned out great. The raised panels and rope molding add quite a bit of visual interest to the project. And your finish looks good. Maple can be a challenge to stain but this looks excellent to me, especially given that you were trying to matching the color of existing furniture.
You are right about the sanding. When I am going to stain/dye wood I will stop sanding at 150 grit.
