After watching hundreds of videos about the oland tool i decided to go for it and make one and I was not prepared to spend over $50 for one. Every plan i saw online asks for a cold rolled steel rod but I didn’t want the hassle to try to drill it so I decided to use an already drilled rod ( $6.99 at Lowes ) it is long enough to make 2 of them!. then i got the 5 Piece M2 High Speed Steel Mini Tool Bits from Harbor Tools ($4.99). I drilled two holes for the set screws ( $.68). For the handle I used a piece of spalted Maple. The Tool bit grinding jig came from a piece of aluminum I had laying around, i’m still not sure where it came from lol. BTW the grinder tool rest came from an old exercise machine lol. I’ll make another post about that one. :-) and the bowl is what I made using my new tool!!! it works perfect! and most people say it is a scraper but this thing was cutting almost like a skew. for some reason the picture shows the tool not straight but it is. :-)

nice build.
So that is what that thing is for that came with my table saw… It is a grinding fixture.

I really don’t know where or what that piece came from. lol but it has become a grinding jig. :-)

I’ve built one of these tools myself. Bought bits from Enco. Not as fancy as yours but sure beats paying for one. Think my total investment was about $5 or $10 and most of that was shipping of the bits.

Favorited for sure! I might have to pick your brain on this one, because I don’t do enough turning to justify expensive carbide tools. You didn’t have to make the handle so beautiful, you know:)

Wildbill001… I totally agree with you, I think this tool is easy enough to make and I don’t think I could justify paying $50 for one of this tools.

I really don’t know what their use is. Originally I was thinking on buying the cold rolled steel rods and drill the hole but this tube was also there and the cutting bit fit perfectly inside of it.
