Hi all. Just came across this site- and saw what the rest of the guys and girls out out there are doing in terms of military shadowboxes. Thought I would throw my latest version out there for review – since I seldom get to hear what my customers think of the boxes – much less feedback from other serious wood workers. A lot of really great work and different ideas out there showcasing the achievements of our G.I’s!

AWESOME shadow box… That is one lucky SMSgt! I’ve seen many military shadow boxes ( I’m USAF myself) and this is awesome!

Andydachippy…yes – 4/4 oak and burl I got lucky enough to harvest about 20 years ago from an old walnut orchard. I make the top 4 ranks for the USAF stripes with minor variations to account for the differences in ranks – but the chassis behind the face is a common component to simplify manufacture. I got lucky with this design – as the folks I make ‘em for can’t keep them on the shelves – the Air Force folks just love ‘em – and when they put all the “color” (Flags, medals, ribbons etc) in them, they turn out really nice.

Great looking work. Funny you mention not getting a lot of feedback from your customers. Most of the things I make are for folks I know. I always get a kick out of hearing guests at someone’s retirement comment on things I have made….I say things like…whoever made that did a fantastic job..ha.

Your work is a great tribute to those fortunate to receive them for their service to our great nation. Keep it up and keep posting your projects.
