This is a project I made for my wife for Mothers Day. The base is pine and the rods are oak. I used a red oak minwax stain and a gloss poly to finish. I experimented with rubbing out the finish. I didn’t have any car buffing compound or wax like some of the articles I read suggested so I rubed it with 00 steelwool and buffed it out with extra virgin olive oil. To my suprise it worked well.

Beautiful. I like the butterfly as well. Great job.

Interesting project. I like the carving. You must use a lot of paper towels though.

A nice home for your towels. I like the carving. The finish came out well.

How did you go about doing that? I would be interested to see.

I used a small cone shaped bit that came with a set I have. I traced the butterfly out line with a stencil I found and free hand drew the interior. I then very carfully used the Dremmel like a router and traced the lines I drew.
