Found a nicely variated Padauk board at the lumber store. So far it has yielded a nice box and plate.

This is the first box I made, other that rough shop storage.

They both look great and you got to have all of that nice Padauk saw dust in your shop! I mad quite a few plates like this a few years ago. I liked how easy it was to turn. They made nice presents for cheese plates.

Nice projects. I just bought some padauk 2 days ago and have never used it before. I look forward to working with it within the nexr few days. It appears a bit more orange colored than I personally like but I understand it will turn to a more reddish color after sealing.

Thank you for all the kind words. I add a picture of the remainder of the board, with the box and plate, so you can compare the contrast of the unfinished wood.

Funny thing: When I went to purchase this piece of lumber, the owner took a $1 per board foot off the price, because it had so much sap wood.

I picked it up because of the sap wood.
