Walnut Turned Box

Here is a Claro Walnut box I turned this week. Glad to be having some shop time lately.

4 inch diam at the flair. 4 inch tall, (5 with ebony finial)

Sanded to 400 grit then buffed with the Beale 3 step Buffing system. (red tripoli, white diamond, and carnuba wax)

I just love the colors that come out in the Claro Walnut. Anything from Very light Tan to Jet Black. The bottom section even has some curl to it.

Did not know what I was going to turn until it showed up. Just put a piece of wood on the lath and started cutting. Decided it needed a lid, through another piece on and turned the dome. Added the finial to help pull the black streaks out in the Claro better. (also easier to pull the lid off with a handle. haha)

All in all I am very pleased with this piece. The shape and size are good for a small ring box or any thing else you can fit.

Please leave all comments and critiques. I am always open to improving my skills and your feed back helps.

Thank you for looking.
Scrappy

Scrappy: A great turning. Nice job. The two dark woods work great.

Great little box, isn”t it wonderful when you go out to shop to play and something like this comes out
of the wood. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for all the great comments every one.

Peteg, It is Ebony, the real stuff. I drilled a hole in the top and turned a peg on the bottom of the finial. Glued in place then turned the finial and finished the inside.

Thanks again for the great comments.
