This is a mantle clock that I built for my mom and dad as a present for their 5oth wedding anniversary. I went to the Woodcraft store looking for mahogany and was unimpressed with what they had, but then I found sipo utile. I was told that it is in the mahogany family. This is a wonderful wood. Its has very consistant color and grain, its easy to work and its finished well. The finish is three applications of wipe-on Watco danish oil and a coat of minwax finishing paste wax. The back panel is some prefinished maply ply that I had in the shop that had some figure to it (hard to see in the pics, sorry). The back is held in play with a series of recessed rare-earth magnets.

Thanks to all for the compliments. My wife and I made the drive to PA from Nashville today. I’ll be giving the clock to mom and dad at the celebration planned in a few days.
