My wife, my son, and myself all take karate together. Our karate teacher has been a great influence in our lives. I wanted to give him some thanx so I made this sword display for him. I tried mortis and tenon for the first time. The side shown in the pic is the good side….the other side, well not so much. looking forward to trying again on another project. I used canarywood and made the arch out of sapele. this was finished with two coats of bush oil…..thanx for looking.

Very nice! This is the kind of piece that I would screw up by mistiming my glue-up:)

I wish I could say that the mortise and tenon is curved, but its not. I cheated it by goin in straight. thanx for the comments though!!! I think I have a new favorite wood with this canarywood
