I made this sword as a Solstice gift for a friend. He had seen a similar one at the New York Renaissance Fair, but they were charging over $100 for them and it just wasn’t in his budget. My cost in materials was substantially less, but the effort involved in getting all of the angles correct and shaping the cross guard made me understand their pricing. The blade and hilt are one piece of hickory, the cross guard and pommel are made of purpleheart stained with an onyx stain. The whole thing was finished with a clear salad bowl finish and the hilt wrapped in leather. I’m rather proud of it and my friend seemed to like it very much. I actually made 3 blades at the same time, the other two are, as yet, unfinished. I modeled it after a real sword in my possession.
