I moved into my apartment and my bedroom door was a cheap hollow core door purchased from a box store a long time ago. It had holes and things in it that had obviously been made and repaired many times.
I found this old exterior door (the numbers were still nailed on it) in my backyard of all places, though it was a fixer-upper so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised.
I cut it down to the right size to fit. Removed some rotten parts and used some of the excess that I had cut off to fill in the previously rotten sections. Added glass to three of the panes that had been broken or missing and re-glazed. Lots of puttying, some sanding, then a fresh coat of paint and it was ready to be hung in place. Wife added some sheer curtains for privacy and now we have a bedroom door that is a conversation piece instead of an embarrassment.
And notice a little pickled oak Minwax stain in the corner for a new project I have coming up.
