This chess board is made of 2-1/4” maple and walnut squares glued to a 1/4” piece of plywood. The raised field is surrounded by a narrow piece of mahagany. The mahogany is surrounded by walnut. I cut the squares using a method described in Woodsmith magazine (vol. 22 / no. 132). I finished the board using several coats of shelac and a coat of wax.
I built this board with no end use in mind…just wanted to build a smaller project. I have about 5-6 hrs in the construction of the board and many hours with the finish.

It would look great as an inlay on a small mahogany table. Excellent work !
