My grandpa passed away just before christmas and this spring my Grandma asked me to make an urn for him. I have made a lot of hollow forms to date, but this one was the hardest mentally and physically. The vessel is maple and the cap is rosewood, about 16 inchs tall by 5 inchs wide.

My condolences on your grandpa’s passing. You did him proud and he has a fine resting place that is made with love and care.

Maybe you have turned a large piece but I don’t recall, all I can remember are the mini forms. I’ll have to go back and check your projects list. I love your work and especially the finial.

The finial looks great, the shape is perfect, I can’t imagine the emotions involved in this project. I am sorry for your loss. You have provided a beautiful urn for your grandparents.

You did a beautiful job on this, Roper. Think of it as ‘wrapping your arms around him.’ He’s all warm in your embrace.

I’m sorry you lost your grandpa, Roper. Your love for him really shines brightly in this piece. I can tell he’s proud of you.
