Cherry Burl Bowl

A friend of mine who is a timber cutter gave me a cherry burl that he had cut 4 or 5 years ago. It had been laying outside in the dirt all of that time. I cut off the rotted edges and made it somewhat round with my bandsaw and mounted it on the lathe. It was about 16” in diameter and probably weighed 40 lbs.
Here’s the result finished size around 13”. I finished it with three coats of Watco oil.

Nice shape, great figure, and I like the fact that it’s not all perfect clear wood, gives it more character
