Very intelligent idea. But you lost out on the shop time it would have taken to make two projects. Seriously though this is a great idea and excellent use of your time.
What finish did you use on the piece?

Your radial arm saw looks familiar. Got one just like it from my dad. Works great. Your bread box looks good as well.

thank you for all the nice coments. the finish is shellac and the tambour door is done with small box hinges. 40 of them. I would have used cloth but i think it would have been breaking the rules in the 2×4 contest.
