Haven’t posted for awhile, have a whack of projects I am hoping to eventually get up here.

This is a maple ‘bunk bed’ I built for a client. My apologies for the poor pictures I forgot to photo it before delivery so I had to get the photos at the clients home.

An interesting build, I am not one for painting wood and the client insisted that she was going to paint it so I did not have to take all the painful steps of preparing the piece for a clear finish, what a time saver! The photos show one of the upper railings missing, I needed to shave a bit off before final assembly and was in the process of this when the photo was taken.

I was on a fairly tight budget for this so I hand made all the hardware (bed bolts) this proved to be a time consuming process however I can say that the resulting joints are ROCK solid. I was unsure whether they would be strong enough but I was suitably impressed.

I included a few photos of the jig I used to drill the long holes into the side rails, this was a tricky fit but in the end it was worth it. I would certainly use the bolts again (made a bunch of extra ones).

The entire piece needed to be broken down to fit into the apartment which as it turns out was the biggest obstacle in completing the project.

Notice on the jig picture, I used the table saw fence as a guide and I shimmed the rails with wood and card stock to ensure a square hole.
