I have a friend currently stationed at the USAF Academy and she is assigned to Cadet Squadron 6. Their nickname is Bull Six so she asked me to build a 6-sided version of the Bull Shadow Box I made last year ( http://lumberjocks.com/projects/38532 ) for her boss who is leaving after graduation ceremonies this year. Once her husband saw it, he wanted something for his boss who is also leaving. He is assigned to Cadet Squadron 16. I didn’t want to do another door box so I suggested the box be keystone shaped, same as the squadron’s patch with the logo frosted on the glass. The box is made from 3/4” walnut and is 19 1/4” tall x 17 1/2” wide x 2” deep. It’s finished with 5 coats of Formby’s Tung Oil Finish.
The logo is actually painted on the glass using Krylon Frosted Glass spray paint. To create the mask, I covered the glass with three full sheet clear labels, placed the printed logo on the back and traced the logo onto the front. Then I cut the tracing out leaving the mask. 2 coats of paint later it was good to go.
