Distressed Tool Chest

This project was inspired by an antique craftsman style tool chest from a flea market. Another family member purchased one and I liked it so much that I decided to make one based loosely on the antique. My wife loves antique furniture so it was a fun challenge to make it look old and weather worn. The finish is a little too nice to be terribly convincing but it does look like an old piece that was refinished. It’s made of solid pine and what is not shown is a tray that is used for magazines and remotes. Under the tray we use the storage space for blankets and throws for those cold winter nights. I used two heavy duty spring loaded support brackets and three strap hinges. The rest of the black hardware is mainly for looks. It’s hard to see in the photo but every corner is made using dovetail joints.

Thanks for looking – Herb

Herb you project looks good – but it’s difficult to see it real good because the photos are too small. Check out the photo posting instructions – you can upload them in a larger size, that will showcase your work much better.

Ditto that from me. For some of us the larger pictures are a necessity. But, from what I can see of it, the chest looks good. This is a piece of furniture that would complement any decor.

Thanks for sharing.

I guess I’m used to other sites that don’t want large photos taking up disk space. I’ve uploaded a third photo that is larger. Let me know if you would like it even larger that that.

Thanks – Herb
