Hi guys new here, this site was recommended by a friend, who said I should enter the 2×4 contest, I did this bowl a few months back, its made from about 2/3’s of a standard 2×4 cutting away the imperfections as I went. the finish is 7 coats of analine dye, and 4 coats of gloss polyurathane.
comments welcome.

That is a really nice bowl. The more I am involved with this site the more I have come to appreciate turnings. The finish on the bowl is exquisite as well. It could almost pass for glass from the appearance of the pictures.
Thanks for sharing!!

After seeing that my wife said, “Sorry dear, you don’t have a chance in that contest.” Well, it is not whether you win or loose, its how you play the game.
Really great work. When I get done building a couple of things for the house (bunk beds mainly), I will get more into turning. I can’t wait.
Keep up the good work!

Wow, who would have thought a 2×4 could look like that? Segmented turning has me intrigued. Unfortunately I don’t have a lathe yet.

very cool. it hardly even looks like wood anymore with that coating, looks like you carved it out of a bowling ball.

Outstanding 2×4 – it almost looks like a beautiful bowl. Seriously, until I saw the 3rd picture – showing the bottom of the bowl – I wasn’t convinced that it was actually pine. Great job.

Welcome to the zoo.
That is a fine piece. I love the way the grain looks on the individual segments.

Yes, there are surprises with every log-on! That’s a stunning finish on your bowl Ian. I’d never have thought it possible.

thanks for the comments.
allister, 2×4 refers to standard dimensional lumber , used in wall framing of a house. the one used was 8 feet long and picked up at the local lumber yard.
