The feared, the revered, the belove-ed mascot of the Arkansas Razorbacks! My daughter and her fiancee are both graduates of the University of Arkansas, and she has mentioned several times previously that she wanted a Razorback carving. And she warned me that I shouldn’t get too carried away in adding too many realistic details….. she wanted it to look like the official mascot/logo. So I had to restrain myself, but it still looks pretty good. I relief carved it and was able to add more dimension, giving the teeth and muscles more definition than the normal design just painted on a flat piece of wood. I wood burned some of the areas to prevent paint from bleeding and to give me some guidelines after the initial coat of red acrylic paint. Ashley and John are happy with the result and are now deciding how it should properly be displayed….perhaps a small spotlight or a perpetual flame of some sort? Thanks for looking!

If they need help in figuring out how to display it… well, you could carve a Kentucky Wildcat chasing after it. ha! No, it really looks good. Even before the paint went on it looked good. I was hiking in the Smokey Mtns. one year at daybreak and one of those things ran out past me. Just a small one but it raised the hair on my neck.
-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)

I hesitated to post it a first, fearing that it might be too frightening, for fans of other schools! Just kidding! I have been a fan of many teams, in the different places that I have lived, but Arkansas has been home for the past 27 years and I call the Hogs like I was born here!
Like every other fan, in every other state, THIS could be THE YEAR, with a little luck and no injuries!
Hog-Allelujah!

A wildcat would be better. But great job.
Will be pulling for Arkansas in football, main reason is Petrino, and Louisville fans hate to see him do good, therefore, I hope he does great. Hated to see them get rid of Pelphrey, I think he should have got one more year, for the great recruiting class he had coming in.
But, anywho, Great job and the colors iare amazing !!!

Wooooo Pig Sooieeee!! That may be the best looking project on LumberJocks!
Seriously that looks really good. I’ve been wanting to take a piece of scrap plywood and cutout a razorback for my shop. I was just going to paint all the details but you’re making me want to do something better. I love it.

I had fun carving it and it wasn’t difficult to do. I used basswood, but you can get poplar at most lumber stores pretty easy. Either would be more fun carving than the plywood! Plywood, the cheaper stuff, would probably be perfect for a wildcat or an elephant? Q, you will find Arkansas to be beautiful in many ways…..Mount Magazine is close to Russellville and offers some spectacular views. Be sure and try the lunches at Stoby’s or Feltner’s Whattaburger in Russellville or visit the vineyards in Altus.

I am a transplant to the great state of Arkansas, ( as they say Kansan by birth, Arkansan by choice) but I Love the hogs….. this is a great looking replica. Keep up the good work.

QMoney, Mike is right, be sure to hit up Whattaburger, they are some tasty burgers. We use to get them after football games when we’d play Russellville.
