This is a ladder bookshelf unit that was commissioned by my wife to display family photos. We have a small area of bumped in wall that was only 18” wide, hence a small display unit was needed.

The shelf unit was designed in Sketchup and built from African Mahogany using mortise and loose tenon joinery. It is canted at a 12 degree angle which made cutting the mortises in the side supports an interesting exercise. The finish is a medium brown analine dye stain followed by garnet shellac and wax.

Nice SketchUp rendering. I’m in the process of learning SketchUp.

In Fact: The actual shelving unit looks great!

Nice, I have been wanting to make a pair of ladder shelves for a while but I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and I think they might actually use them as ladders.
