I’m teaching myself to carve, a slow process. I’ve gone through one box of band-aides already! Meanwhile, friends of ours are going to Ireland to serve as Missionaries. I carved this cross from Basswood and made the plaque from a door of our church. I know what you’re thinking. No, we replaced the doors with new ones last year. I salvaged the old doors and found them made of thick old, old laminated pine, circa 1926. I glued up a couple of pieces of the styles and then cut the plaque out and finished it with boiled linseed oil, then lo-gloss laquer. I finished the cross with high gloss laquer and glued it to the pine. We’ll present it to them just before they leave and they will take a little piece of the church with them when they make the move.

-- I did measure it twice, it's still too short.

The teaching process looks to be going very well. I’m sure your friendes will be delighted with their present.

Just curious though. They are going to Ireland to be missionaries? What part?
I think St. Patrick might have beaten them to it !!
