This is my first attempt at Marquetry. Marquetry is pattern of inlaid veneers of wood, brass, ivory, etc., fitted together to form a picture or design. This was completed in March 2011. On this one the customer wanted a couple whales on the face of their murphy bed. I choose Quarter Sawn Walnut and Lacewood for the artwork and maple was used everywhere else.
I started out selling the customer on the idea of my Euro style. My supplier Create-a-bed came out with a new leg design. This would free up the face and make the “canvas” for the artwork more unobstructed. This style is more a modified Contempo style More details on the build can be found on the building blog: A Whale of a Time

Very nice first effort Chris. The orcas look very lifelike. You can be an honorary Vancouver Canucks fan.

Hey Chris,
You don’t want to be a Canuck…You want to be a Flyer’s Fan. LOL
Anyway, great job on the bed and inlay, and thank you for the mention.
