I’m not sure what the week holds in the way of time in the shop to finalize my entry. There will be walnut handles above the drawers, rare earth magnets holding the drawers closed and an adapted jewlery box lock to hold the lid shut. Those details will change the appearance of my entry somewhat but I don’t need the extra pressure this week. I think you can get a good idea of it from these pics.
This is a downsized adaptation of a box shown in Tolpin’s book: The Toolbox Book
Black Walnut, Ash, Poplar, Pallet Oak and Oak ply
Two coats of Deft Satin Spray Laquer
18” long x 14” high x 9.25” wide
I hand-cut the dovetails on the walnut and ash trays. The tray arrangement and tray handles are my own design. I felt pushed for time, so the drawer half-blind dovetails were made with a PC jig. There’s two other drawers on the other end of the box.
I probably won’t stick with the pictured pulls either, but I’ll post completed pictures next month on my blog entry for this box.

That looks great! I like the drawers in the end of the box rather in the side. Great dovetails.
Are their drawers in each end or do they go the length of the box?

This is a nice tool box. I especially like the curved lid. It adds a nice element to the box.
Now that you have a new tool box surely you can justify some new tools to go in it.

Gorgeous tool box. I hate to think of trying to cut all those wedge-shaped pieces.

That’s a bit of an overstatement, but I wouldn’t mind selling it for the Gerstner price range!
