Our friends Arnie and Sally knew that I collected logs to turn them into lumber. They were having their dying pin oak tree cut down from their front yard and asked if I wanted it. I took it and had it cut into lumber. The green wood had some beautiful green striped throught the grain, probably from the fungus that killed the tree. Pin Oak is notrious for having tons of branches right off the main trunk. As a result there are knots everywhere. As a result, when the wood was kiln dried it warped like crazy. I didn’t get much if any clear wood out of it.
But Arnie and Sally are naturalists and wanted a head board made from one of the pieces. They piced the piece and I made this head board with the verticle supports made from pin oak as well. They were very happy with the result.
