This is a simple project that I have done recently and started using. We recently got a french press and a wooden spoon just does not quite get into the corners, I needed a small project that I could take to work, I match made in heaven?
I also needed a chance to practice knife work. What I learned:
Sawn wood sucks for this, use split wood, this is much better.
Alder does not scrape very well with an aggressive burr.
A project can be lumpy and crude but still feel great in the hand and be useful.
Thanks for looking.

I’ve been using a French Press for the past ten years. It’s a quick easy way to make a decent cup of coffee. I’m curious about what you need the special stick for.
I have been reading quite a bit of Roy Underhill’s stuff and see the difference between sawn wood and the way the grain runs in stuff split off a log. So far it’s just all academic to me. I have to follow in your footsteps and actually create some things.
Keep on keeping on.
Enjoy your coffee.

I must say your mug has a nicely seasoned look about it. I too prefer my coffe from my well seasoned mug.

Very old mug, been drinking out of it longer than I have been married.
The wand is just to stir the coffee so one of my spoons that I use for cooking is not permanently dirty. It also help scrape the grounds out when done. (really could have kept using the spoon but I wanted an excuse to whittle at work)
French Press…how did I live without you?
