This is ribbon maple that was dyed with various aniline dyes. The handle is ebony and the cane is through mortised into the handle for strength. I usually make my canes at no charge for people that need them but this one I built to sell at the local renaissance festival coming in June. I have four more in the shop for the festival that I am considering dying as well. Once you play with dyes you immediately realize the potential they have to enhance and beautify whatever wood you may be working with. It’s messy but fun, like all aspects of woodworking.

Excellent job, one of the strangest, yet beautiful canes I’ve seen and own.
