Wedding Pen Production!
Here are the results of a recently completed project. A buddy of mine (the groom) wanted to give his groomsmen a custom pen as a gift for taking part in the wedding ceremonies. After some back & forth, he wanted to get cigar pens (chrome finish) made with cherry.

Well, the bride caught wind of what was going on and wanted to get in on the act, too! She wanted some Sierra Elegants (black titanium finish) made with maple – to give to the ladies in the wedding party.

Altogether, I knocked out 10 of the cigars and 8 of the sierras – and the newlyweds are very happy with the results.

For all of you pen turners on LJ – this could be a good market to target. You can produce/sell your pens in larger quantities instead of the one-off orders. Perhaps target a wedding consultant/planner in your area and introduce yourselves and what you can do.

Nice looking pens – they must have kept you busy for a while! I really like your choice of wood with the kits that you were using. They look great.

Talk about a potential niche market! Thanks for pointing that out, and they sure look very nice. Maybe a hint about the wedding engraved somewhere?

i like the figure on the maple pens. the cigar pens also very nice. weddings can be profitable!

nice,something i wanted to try for a while now…but,that would mean buying a lathe 1st and learning to use it lol.

@ Sodabowski: I’m still looking for a good resource for laser engraving. The results of ones I’ve seen seem a little “horsey” and distracting. Still hoping to find one, though, because an engraved pen would certainly be appropriate for this type of work.

@ hardhead: I’ve been ordering my kits from Woodturningz, Penn State and Berea Hardwoods.
