I went by a church rummage sale last weekend and came accross two old lonely walnut cutting boards for one dollar each(10×10 x 2 end grain & 12×20 x 1-1/4 face grain), so I bought them for a makeover. After sanding the cut marks, I cut 3/8 deep dados and inserted strips of zircote and rotated 90 deg and inserted sugar maple strips. After sanding and looking at it I should have altered the sugar maple and zircote for a more blended pattern. After I finish the second board, I think I will go back to the church and donate the two new boards for them to raffle off.

Great idea for a makeover. And giving it back is even better. The strips make a huge difference.
Great job pal. This is good inspiration to me for future cutting boards as well. Thanks for sharing.

Bet the church gets more than a dollar next time!
