I was asked by a friend at work to build him cabinets for his kitchen and here they are. I was thrown a curve when he asked for hickory, I knew I would be buying more blades and knives for my planer!! I made 2 cabinets, used biscuits, then I realized that I didn’t have enough clamps to keep going so I used pocket screws to attach the faceframes; on the cabinets that are seen I used contact cement to cover with 1/4 in. hickory plywood.

I love hickory. I did my kitchen in it but I was able to get less of that white (sap?) wood. Hickory has great character.

Thanks for the comments!! It was a lot of work getting the hickory milled down, but the outcome was worth it. Jeff, the white wood is the Sap wood and believe it or not, much harder than the heart I noticed. On the other hand the grain in the Sap is much different than the heart too, you got off easier!!!!
