This is a project that is very simple, and can be finished in just a few hours.
I needed a box for my desk that I could keep pens, pencils, paper clips and what ever in.
I laid out the shape directly onto a piece of sapele and then used my bandsaw to cut out the different compartments.
I sketched out the sides on what I believe to be red oak. (Free pallet wood)
The only tough part of this type of box is laying out the holes to place the pins that hold the lid in place.
The pins should be close to the bottom of the lid. This keeps the top from opening too far, and acts like a lid stop.
I used my router with a 1/4” rounder bit to ease some of the sides.
The finish is boiled linseed oil with a wipe on poly, sanded between coats and then used Johnson’s paste wax.
