This is some Claro Walnut Burl that I got from Greg at Oregon Burls.. I had posted another box that I thought had Walnut Burl, but Greg privately informed me that it was Maple Burl. The beautiful spalting of that one had confused me. I checked with Greg this time! I had made a Birdseye Redwood top, but had some issues(mistakes) and had to do another top. (Would that lift tab have looked good on the right side??) I thought this Walnut would look good. 10” square and about 4 1/2” tall. The bottom is some recycled redwood from an old tool cabinet. I did a quick wash with BLO and then a couple of coats of Watco Danish Oil. I have thoughts about some Poly, but the Wipe on stuff is prone to streaks. The rattle can stuff is a possibility. The Redwood is from Larry Dubia in Santa Cruz. Lots of good contacts on this site for wood! I did the brass pin thing for a hinge and third time worked really well. The other box is a Curly Maple box with a Birdseye Redwood top. I did use the rattle can Poly for the top. It gave it a lot more color and shine.
-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and now time to work!!!
