I built this transitional criib/sleigh bed for my first grand child (due in 2 weeks.. woo hoo!) out of maple. This one was not one of my own designs but was significantly modified from a basic plan I found on-line. I had a real hard time figuring out how to cut, clamp and glue the curved part of the head/foot boards. But it turned out pretty good, my daughter & son-in-law really liked it.

Really nice work
Great design also, what finish did you use?

Thanks for the nice comment, I used a Minwax Honey Maple Gel Stain. I was not very happy with the product and would not use again. It did not penetrate well and it was a mess trying to remove the residual stain. I finished with polyurethane varnish applied with an HVLP sprayer.

Well done.
It will more than likely get used a lot longer than the cradles many of us have made…..they are usually abandoned after about 6 months. Wish I had don what you are doing instead.

Thanks Tom,
I’m in Scotland so we have different products.
I’m an oil & wax, less mess :) or I’m a bit lazy.

I’ve a HVLP sitting in the box, I may get back to you for some tips.

Tom, that looks great, I’m also waiting for our first grand child. After reading LesB’s comment, I think your project is the way to go. I especialy like the dual usage, makes sense. You’ve inspired me to get started.
Thanks.
